Goats Cheese Lover!!!
I have to confess to being a Goats Cheese fan!!! I think it's one of those foods that you either love or hate.....a bit like marmite (or vegemite......I just became an Australian Citizen last night....I should make the change!!). So yes, I love goats cheese and find that it's great because it's really flavoursome and can carry a dish all by itself!! Recently I have discovered Main Ridge Dairy Goats Cheese and in being so happy with the product have become a loyal consumer!!! When it comes to food I like homegrown, local, preferably sustainable and organic, not because I am a hemp wearing hippie with hairy arm pits (all manner of respect to those that are by the way) but purely because of common sense and a general fuzzy feeling I get when shopping at places that source such items!! I can often be found at local Farmer's markets, organic fruit & veg shops and local specialist delicatessens!!
So here are my thoughts on the goats cheese in a nut shell.
Main Ridge Dairy Goats Cheese....AWESOME.
From the website

"Main Ridge Dairy is a farmhouse cheese factory and goat dairy located in Main Ridge on the Mornington Peninsula. We are the only large commercial dairy operating on the Peninsula and pride ourselves in producing a milk of the highest quality that is then handmade into a range farmhouse cheeses.
Careful feed and herd management, gentle handling of the milk and a passion for cheese help us to provide a range of beautiful cheeses right here on our farm."
I have tried the soft brie like Cilia and the semi-hard cheese Caprinella. I recommend both for i.e. omelettes (try an omelette with spinach, toms, capsicum, spring onion etc...superb!!) and also in salads. Soooooo tasty to have in a salad with nuts and a good pickle or chutney!! Di's Rhubarb pickle from my local farmer's market has been a hit, however any chutney or pickle is fab with the cheese!!!
Farmer's Markets are a great way to pick up tasty treats, healthy organic and seasonal veggies, AMAZING pastries, cheeses, nuts...you name it. Jump on google to find your nearest. Here's a website for some in Melbourne.
Local specialist deli's are also great like this one.... http://www.emptyfridge.com.au/index.php?merchant_id=838&pageID=10793
An Article on Di's Rhubarb http://gourmettraveller.com.au/june-rhubarb-compote.htm I was also lucky enough to have a friend make an apple chutney for me recently which was tangy and delicious in salads and omelette / frittata!!
Above all else....do / buy / read / spend time on something if you love it......if you don't....find something you do!!!
Personally I hate Goat's cheese, Marmite and Vegemite!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the Farmers Market. St Kilda Veg out is my favourite!
