Quitting Sugar
Wednesday was the start of Lent, and Mother bear called to tell me she was giving up sugar. I SO love a challenge that I decided to jump on board. So for 40 days no sugar, dried fruit or honey (keeping note of any nutritional tables for a sugar reading of no more than 6g per 100g). I didn’t think I ate much sugar anyway (so thought it would be easy) yet i’ve noticed since Wednesday how many times I go to grab something sweet and have to stop myself!! An eye opener.
Resources
I've written before to help with giving up sugar here. Sarah Wilson has heaps of info on quitting sugar. She recommends an 8 week program which starts my easing you into it and then guides you through 6 weeks of cutting out sugar all together (any kind of sugar including fruit). I think it’s a great idea to rebalance our bodies, with benefits such as re balancing weight, hormones, energy levels and much more. At the moment I am still eating a little fresh fruit everyday - so far feeling great!!
Juice & Smoothie Challenge
As well as giving up sugar (not to do things by halves) my brother told me he was going to start a smoothie challenge, to have one green smoothie every day for 30 days starting at the weekend (as part of normal healthy eating). As I have been juicing veggies over the last few weeks I also decided to jump on board. From Wednesday I have had either a fresh veggie juice or green smoothie. My skin looks Ah-Mazing and I will keep you posted because I have a sneaky suspicion that come the end of March I will look like i’m 16
Great Juice / Smoothie recipes
My favourite juice at the moment is - carrots, beetroot, celery and ginger.
Smoothies include - banana, brazil nuts, coconut oil and parsley
- papaya (paw paw), cos lettuce and almond milk (optional coconut oil or flaxseed)
Just made the boy a delicious one this morning of - banana, almonds, coconut oil, coconut water and half a bunch of parsley.
My favourite smoothie I buy at a local cafe (but will now make at home) is banana, kale, celery, brazil nuts (optional date)
Round up
To top it off I have committed to 5 days of dedicated exercise (gym or yoga) every week.
Watch this space - i’ll keep you posted. Side effects to date - carrot burps. Enough said!
xx
