For the Love of The Farmer's Market

For the love of the Farmers Market!
Pretty much every Saturday I'm off to the Farmers Market.  I literally love it.  I am such a foodie and the humble Farmers Market is such a god send.....
When I first heard of farmers markets I gave it a go as I was loathing the weekly trips to the supermarket so didn't feel like I had much to lose.  The weekly Supermarket dash up until then had involved frantic people, rushing around, trying to get in and out as quick as possible, people and trolleys everywhere, fluro lights, a million items I felt I should know how to use and what to do with them.......how many jars of sauce alone are there??

If you feel a bit like this from time to time....I urge you to look for a local farmers market and give it a shot!!
5 Reasons to check out the Farmer’s Market?
1.  The farmers are all jolly, friendly and smiley!!

2.  The food is delish.  I once bought biodynamic zucchini’s and carrots (from Mr Biodynamic, check out his website where you can also buy produce here) and wondered why they had a floral / parfume aroma (I thought the container I took them to work in was stained but couldn’t smell anything in it).  When I asked at the next market, the farmer told me this is actually how they are supposed to smell and taste and this is all lost in conventional farming.

3.  The produce is local and seasonal.  You don’t have to think about what is in season and so what makes sense to be eating from nature’s perspective....it’s already done for you in what’s available.  Meeting the farmers means you can connect with the food source and appreciate what was involved to get the food from the ground to your sweaty little hands!

4.  A lot of the produce is organic (there is also biodynamic).  Why is this good?  Click here for a good little snapshot.

5.  One of my top reasons............you can eat your way around (Di’s rhubarb tarts and phillipa’s baked goods are delish) and the coffee (organic with organic Schulz milk, click here for a great article on Organic milk) is so yum.

Here are some pics

Now when I go into supermarkets which is usually once every month or two, I feel so much relief!!  Knowing that I only need a couple of items and am only in there for a short time is a sigh of relief!!
Maybe just try a farmers market, and go now and again.  See how you feel?  Take a friend, try some goodies....taste the difference!!

Farmers Market Tip - Take your own bags.  It's easier and good to recycle!

Organic Produce Delivery.  I have used Miss Organic before who delivers great quality fruit and veg boxes (and more).  I have also been told by a good friend that Ceres Fair Food is really good.  I plan to try them this year for convenience now and again.
In England
Phillip Day who is an entertaining and informative Medical Researcher (also featured on the Food Matters dvd which is a GREAT watch) in the UK recommends this website for Organic Produce Delivery.
Have you visited any lush Farmer's Markets lately?
