Feel Good Friday

I have a philosophy...........if you're going to eat chocolate, drink red wine or have a coffee.........rather have a product of superb quality - and pay a bit more for it if need be.  Have it in moderation and it will be guaranteed to not only taste sensational and be super satisfying......but be much better for your body. Quality my friends....much better than quantity.

So, ironically although I have commenced a 7 week health kick this week which involves giving my daily coffee date the boot, I have some recommendations of some fantastic coffee shops in Melbourne.  I have been on a mission and look out for fantastic spots with delicious (fair trade and organic - including good quality milk) brews.

Melbourne CBD

With locations in South Melbourne market and the city, http://www.padrecoffee.com.au/ is a fantastic location for a delicious, organic, fair trade cup of coffee.  The staff are smiling and chirpy and the cafes are retro, light and airy!!  The milk used is Jonesy http://www.jonesysdairyfresh.com/?p=3
(they are kind and fair to the cows.......these farmers wanted to make a stand to ensure they were not forced into producing a cheap and nasty product so they could drive prices down to the end product - crazy supermarket prices!!!)

Truffle Espresso is on Flinders Lane.  A couple of kiwi blokes (young cheeky chaps) have set up this booth in an office block.  They look trendy in their jeans, white shirts and waistcoats and make an amazing coffee......organic, Jonesy's milk.....all good!!  http://www.truffulaseed.com.au/

Elwood and Albert Park

The next place is Combi Coffee......oh for the love of my Combi Coffee man.  The owner originally set up in Elwood and has now also opened up in Albert Park.  They make sensational coffees (again organic and fair trade - the best for body and planet) and ginger cookies dipped in dark Belgian chocolate that are out of this world.  They specialise in coffees, cakes and the odd sandwich or soup, no fuss, just good quality fair.

Combi Coffee has a great story, it started as a Combi van which visited music festivals in the 90's serving coffee; and now has become a bit of an institution.  The staff are totally chilled, merry and you can't help but feel relaxed whether dashing in for a takeaway or pulling up a stool for a soup!!

Have a look for your own great places............and let me know if you have any suggestions :)

  1. I don't really get the whole coffee addiction, On my tram to work I see young kids get on with a coffee from the local coffee shop. Seem's strange if a kid needs coffee to wake them up. Or maybe it's just to be normal in modern society.

I prefer a nice glass of water from the springs of earth.

  2. David, I think there are three types of coffee drinkers.

    Coffee Soldiers
These people are struggling with their personal energy, and they need the coffee to power a body that actually isn't resources with enough water, nutrition and spiritual energy to kick start their day. These people don't need to be challeneged, they need a glass of water and a hug.

    Coffee Connector
This person drinks as a way to connect to themselves. They seek to indulge a little. It's almost like a private meditation or personal ceremony to connect with self and centre oneself before starting the day. A quite moment and some kind words to themselves or gratitude to the universe might replace the coffee if practiced and repeated.

    And the Coffee Conisuir
Like all conisuirs who appreciate the fine things in life, this person knows beauty and recognizes the intricate detail that is often pivotal to beauty. They do enjoy the energy from coffee but it is not to 'kick start' but to 'live'. They also enjoy the soul connection coffee can provide but they would prefer to share coffee with others to connect with more than just themselves. The Coffee Conisuir also understands that much of beauty is not only what is added but what is left out, and thus they never err to gluttony. Coffee is a celebration of life, not a dependency. Thus they couldcelbrate with any medium, not just coffee.

I think as coffee drinkers we move between the types, but we are the most happy when we are conisuirs. And all any of are trying to is be happy. You seem to have found joy in water :) The rest of us haven't all cought up to your wisdom yet.
